est. 2021
Founded in 2021 by Katrina Kwok and Madison Case, Periphery Magazine is a passion project birthed from early pandemic isolation. Rejecting the limited opportunities offered by existing institutions, Katrina and Madison set their sights on creating an independent publication focused on amplifying traditionally underrepresented voices. After many sleepless nights and hours of video calls, Periphery Magazine officially launched on August 5, 2021 with a staff of 16 creatives.
Since August 2021, Periphery’s online journal has welcomed over 6,000 unique visitors from 62 different countries on six continents. We’ve seen a maximum growth of 14,900% site visits following the launch of our interview series, with over 10,000 site visits averaging a session duration of 8 minutes and 8 seconds. Periphery has published the works of over fifty contributors from all corners of the world—from New York to London to India and beyond.
Nearly four years later, Periphery is back and better than ever—this time, focusing on surviving the end times through mutual aid, events, and in-person collaboration. Meet our current staff below, and click on their photo to learn a bit about them!

though we promise to read and review any artwork or writing submitted, periphery reserves the right to reject any submission received. if a piece doesn't fit our desired theme, image, or subject, it is not reflective of your talent. we encourage anyone interested in being apart of our team and community to continue to submit.
because we are an independent, non-profit magazine, staff member positions are unpaid. all donations go directly towards the operational functions of periphery and make a huge impact, as the executive staff pays for all out-of-pocket costs! donations do not guarantee accepted submissions or staff member positions.
as a magazine seeking to amplify traditionally marginalized voices, periphery is committed to promoting inclusion. through fostering a supportive, diverse community, we learn, build empathy, and grow in our understanding of others. periphery welcomes all creatives regardless of sex, race, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, education, disability, national origin, languages spoken, culture, ethnicity, religion, age, or belief.
