Today Is Not Someday, You Know What I Mean?
There are so many shades of green
That I love.
But yours is my favourite.
You stand in front of me
Trying to convince me to dance
The darkest green floating above your head.
Now I’m talking about my father
And how I’m unsure
If I would like to meet him someday.
He must be surrounded
By a murky red
On a beer stained sofa.
“It’s okay to be confused”
Your voice is like a cool breeze blowing
against the trees.
“Today is not someday, you know what I
mean?”
I do. I always do. There’s no need to ask.
You are overgrown and underestimated
And I know that you are unaware
Of how much I stare
At the emeralds in your eyes
Dull and familiar.
You tell me you will die young
But I insist you will lead a prolific life.
You are always alive, even in death.
Even the most muted greens
Hold the promise
Of life.
